Building Brighter Futures: V3’s Project Management for Northern Cape Schools
V3 Consulting Engineers is transforming education in the Northern Cape through our professional project management services for seven schools on behalf of the Department of Roads and Public Works (DRPW). As a Level 1 B-BBEE consultancy established in 2014, our mission to “improve the lives of communities through infrastructure delivery” is at the heart of this initiative, located in Upington, Kuruman, and Riet Rivier.
Led by Business Unit Manager and Chief Operating Officer Porsch Sekhukhune from our Kimberley office in the Management Services Department, the project provides oversight from Stage 4 to Stage 6 of the Infrastructure Delivery Management System (IDMS), embodying our values of accountability, safety, innovation, and people and diversity. Our brand promise, Motho Ke Motho Ka Batho (“We are who we are because of others”), guides collaborative efforts that foster transformation and ethical practices, creating educational spaces that empower future generations.
Project Scope: Comprehensive Oversight for Educational Excellence
The project scope includes project management, stakeholder reporting, construction supervision, and contractor management for schools such as:
- Riet Rivier Primary
- Oranje-Oewer Intermediêre Skool
- Carlton van Heerden Secondary
- New Kalahari Secondary
- Magojaneng New Primary
- Franciscus Intermediate
- Bankhara Bodulong New Primary
Currently in Stage 5 (construction), we amend existing plans, designs, and documentation while ensuring compliance with OHS regulations. Facilities feature classrooms, laboratories, administration blocks, media centres, and sports fields, with asbestos removal at sites like Carlton van Heerden and Franciscus Intermediate to create safer environments.
Using ISO 9001:2015-certified processes, we conduct monthly progress reporting and secure certificates for compaction and fire protection, balancing environmental impacts with affordability through economic analyses. Photos depict progress: foundations rising at Riet Rivier, structural frames at New Kalahari, and safe demolition at Franciscus, showcasing our proactive approach.
Impactful Benefits: Empowering Communities Through Education
This project creates profound socio-economic ripple effects, generating approximately 500 jobs per school by prioritising local hiring and skills development. This aligns with our transformation agenda, reducing unemployment in surrounding communities and fostering economic empowerment.
New capacities at schools like Bankhara Bodulong Primary reduce overcrowding, enhancing education quality for more learners. Safety is paramount; high audit scores reflect our commitment, with asbestos replacement protecting students, staff, and residents. Transparency through stakeholder consultations involves communities, embodying integrity and accountability.
Our flexible culture ensures long-term durability, extending infrastructure lifespans and boosting property values in rural areas.
V3’s Role: Innovation and Collaboration in Delivery
Challenges such as site variability are met with innovation, using GIS for precise planning and risk assessments for ethical execution. As implementing agents, we facilitate contractor management, promoting diversity by mentoring previously disadvantaged teams.
This results-driven teamwork ties to our motto, as improved schools create interdependent success, reinvesting in bursaries and social investments. Our ethical behaviour avoids superficial aid, focusing on sustainable interventions that honour national objectives.
Looking Ahead: A Legacy of Educational Transformation
The Northern Cape schools project reaffirms V3 Consulting Engineers’ vision as partners for sustained growth, delivering infrastructure that uplifts underprivileged communities. By upholding values of innovation and sustainability, we are building brighter futures, one school at a time.
