Upgrading of National Route 1 Section 4 between Doornfontein (km 63.0) and Laingsburg (km 81.7)

• Capacity improvement by adding 1 lane over total length to create 2+1 lane configuration or adding 2 lanes to create 4 lane undivided carriageway.
• Widening of existing structures depending on widening strategy and hydraulic calculations: Buffels river bridge, Wilgerhout river bridge, Doornfontein bridge and 8 Major culverts
• Upgrading of intersections
• A 20-year pavement design life is to be adopted for the existing road rehabilitation
• Drainage improvements to drains and culverts
• Ancillary works such as road markings, guardrails and signage including rest areas improvement.
