Enhancing Mobility: V3’s New Taxi Holding Area in D’Almeida
V3 Consulting Engineers is enhancing public transport in Mossel Bay with the New Taxi Holding Area in D’Almeida, a project that exemplifies our mission to improve the lives of communities through infrastructure delivery. As a Level 1 B-BBEE consultancy founded in 2014, we designed this facility in the Western Cape, led by our Mossel Bay office’s in the Infrastructure Department. With phase 1 now completed, it provides organised holding for up to 75 mini-bus taxis, aligning with our values of innovation, safety, accountability, and sustainability. Our brand promise, “Motho Ke Motho Ka Batho” (We are who we are because of others), drives collaborative efforts that support transformation, creating ethical solutions that uplift local economies and foster inclusivity.
Project Scope: From Design to Completion
The scope included a paved parking area with kerbing, channelling, sewer and water reticulation, and stormwater systems; a new surfaced access road with signs and markings; and Phase 2 plans for an office and ablution block by end-2026. Stages encompassed defining needs, development, design, procurement, construction management, and close-out. Using civil engineering design software for optimal layout, we ensured efficient drainage and safety features, balancing environmental impacts.
Photos show the transformation: expansive paved bays accommodating taxis, and the access road improving flow. Our ISO 9001:2015 processes guaranteed quality, with risk assessments addressing site challenges like terrain variability.
Impactful Benefits: Organised and Safe Transport Hubs
This project provides an organised waiting area, reducing chaos and enhancing user safety. It supports local economic upliftment by facilitating reliable transport for commuters, boosting trade in the D’Almeida area. Job creation during construction involved diverse SMMEs, promoting skills transfer and mentorship for disadvantaged individuals.
Sustainability is evident in stormwater designs that minimise flooding, aligning with our environmental ethos. Accountability ensured OHS compliance, protecting workers and users. This ethical approach extends infrastructure lifespans, lowering maintenance costs for reinvestment in community programmes like bursaries.
V3’s Innovative Role: Overcoming Challenges for Community Gain
Challenges, such as flat terrain and integrating with existing roads, were met with our flexible culture,. The ablution block in Phase 2 will further enhance dignity, tying to our people value.
Vision Forward: Mobilising Inclusive Growth
The D’Almeida Taxi Holding Area reaffirms V3’s vision as partners for sustained growth, delivering transport infrastructure that transforms lives. By prioritising innovation and diversity, we build connected, equitable communities in South Africa.
Revitalising Connectivity: V3’s Rehabilitation of Road MR938 in Kathu
V3 Consulting Engineers is revitalising Northern Cape roads with the rehabilitation of Road MR938 between MR884 (km 18.37) and TR 5/5 (km 60.20) in Kathu. As a Level 1 B-BBEE consultancy established in 2014, this project supports our mission to improve the lives of communities through infrastructure delivery, led by Business Unit Manager and Chief Operating Officer Porsch Sekhukhune from our Northern Cape office in the Management Services Department. Currently in Stage 4, it enhances safety and accessibility, reflecting our values of innovation, accountability, safety, and sustainability. Our brand promise, “Motho Ke Motho Ka Batho” (We are who we are because of others), guides ethical collaborations that drive transformation and economic empowerment.
Project Scope: Upgrading for Modern Needs
The scope includes widening for right-turn lanes, strengthening pavement, upgrading stormwater drainage, and replacing signs and road markings. Stages cover development, design, procurement, management, and close-out. Using GIS for precise assessments, we balance environmental impacts with affordability via economic analyses.
Photos illustrate progress: widened sections with new lanes, reinforced pavements, and improved drainage systems. Our ISO 9001:2015 processes ensure quality, with risk assessments mitigating hazards in mining-adjacent areas.
Impactful Benefits: Economic and Safety Gains
This project supports local economic upliftment through job creation and SMME involvement, alongside improved safety via turn lanes and signage. Reduced travel times and vehicle costs enhance connectivity, while community skills development empowers previously disadvantaged groups. Environmental improvements include better drainage to prevent erosion, aligning with sustainability.
Accountability is demonstrated through OHS adherence, and transparency fosters trust. These improvements reduce accidents in rural Kathu, boosting property values and trade.
V3’s Proactive Approach: Innovation Meets Challenges
Challenges like terrain issues are addressed with flexible teamwork, using innovative pavement techniques. Ethical procurement promotes diversity, tying to our motto by creating shared benefits.
Vision Ahead: Roads to Prosperity
The MR938 rehabilitation honours V3’s vision, delivering infrastructure that sustains growth and inclusivity in South Africa.
