Casual Day Feature: V3 Goes Beyond the Label in Support

At V3 Consulting Engineers, our participation in Casual Day is a heartfelt extension of our mission to “improve the lives of communities through infrastructure delivery,” emphasising our core values of people and diversity, accountability, and sustainability.

As a Level 1 B-BBEE firm established in 2014, we actively engage in this national South African campaign, held annually on the first Friday of September — 5 September 2025 this year — to raise awareness and funds for persons with disabilities.

Our brand promise — Motho Ke Motho Ka Batho (“We are who we are because of others”) — resonates deeply with Casual Day’s 2025 theme, “Beyond the Label,” encouraging us to challenge stereotypes and foster inclusion. By going beyond superficial gestures, we align this initiative with our vision of transformative growth, where ethical practices and social investments create equitable opportunities for all.

Embracing the Theme: Challenging Perceptions Through Action

Casual Day, organised by the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) in its 31st year, invites South Africans to dress casually for a donation, supporting disability rights and empowerment.

At V3, we embraced “Beyond the Label” by encouraging staff across our Pretoria head office and regional branches in Bloemfontein, Durban, Mossel Bay, Cape Town, Kimberley, and Gqeberha to wear their Casual Day sticker, get dressed up/down, and enjoy the dynamic blue T-shirts, caps, and bucket hats — the official merchandise symbolising unity and vibrancy. This wasn’t just about fun attire; it sparked office-wide discussions on disability inclusion, tying directly to our value of people and diversity.

Employees shared personal stories, such as our receptionist Polina Ditsoane’s journey of overcoming stigma, reinforcing that physical challenges do not define capabilities. Our proactive approach extended to interactive workshops where teams explored how infrastructure designs — like accessible bridges in transportation projects or wheelchair access in public spaces, and inclusive water sanitation facilities — can dismantle barriers for persons with disabilities.

Using GIS and 3D technology, we simulated user perspectives, ensuring our built environment services prioritise functionality and safety for all, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 and our commitment to ethical behaviour.

Fundraising and Community Impact: Sustainable Support Over Charity

V3’s Casual Day efforts raised significant funds through matched donations and team challenges, avoiding a “cheque-book” mentality in favour of meaningful contributions.

These proceeds supported NCPD programmes that empower persons with disabilities through skills development and employment opportunities — mirroring our own bursary funding and mentorship initiatives for previously disadvantaged individuals.

In rural underprivileged communities, where we direct social investments, this ties into our motto by creating ripple effects: safer, accessible infrastructure, such as urban roads or mining facilities, that enable economic participation for everyone.

Accountability is key; we documented our participation in our Strategic Management Plan, measuring impact through feedback surveys and follow-up actions, such as integrating disability-friendly designs into ongoing projects. This results-driven teamwork not only boosted morale but also enhanced our ISO 9001:2015-certified processes, promoting continuous improvement in how we address social impacts during feasibility studies and risk assessments.

Fun with Purpose: Building Bonds and Awareness

The day featured light-hearted activities — virtual trivia on disability history, themed photo booths, and a “blue wave” dress-up contest — that fostered collaboration across departments.

Engineers from transportation and structural teams competed in fun challenges, like designing “inclusive” paper models, blending innovation with laughter. This inviting atmosphere reflects our flexible culture, where fun reinforces professional goals, such as economic analyses that ensure affordability in renewable energy integrations without excluding vulnerable groups.

Challenges, such as coordinating remote participation, were met with creativity using online platforms to connect our diverse workforce. The event also highlighted our safety value, as discussions emphasised OHS compliance in designs that accommodate disabilities, preventing assumptions and promoting empathy.

V3’s Vision: Inclusion as a Cornerstone of Transformation

Participating in Casual Day reaffirms V3 Consulting Engineers’ dedication to going “Beyond the Label”, honouring our purpose as your partners for sustained growth. By weaving inclusion into our operations — from contract administration to construction supervision — we uplift communities and advance South Africa’s transformation objectives.

This initiative inspires continued skills transfer and social investments, creating a more equitable society where diversity strengthens innovation and integrity prevails.

Join us in celebrating Casual Day’s legacy as we build infrastructure that truly serves everyone.
