CESA

I have been employed by a CESA Member Firm, V3 Consulting Engineers, since 2013. Getting involved with the local CESA Branch in Kimberley was inevitable, as individuals from Member Firms were nominated to serve on the branch’s committee. I started assisting the CESA Northern Cape branch as Treasurer in 2017 and was elected Branch Treasurer in 2018, serving in this position until 2021. With the severe restrictions of COVID-19, the Kimberley Branch never resurrected and is currently struggling to get back on its feet.

SAICE

I became a SAICE Member in 2005. After relocating to Kimberley, I started to attend the Quarterly Branch Meetings and, in 2018, became the Kimberley Branch Vice Chairman for a 2-year term. I in 2020 and 2021, I was Chairman for the Kimberley branch, and again the following 2-year term still as Chairman, hitting a hat trick again for the 2022 / 2023 term. In the current 2-year term on the committee, I am serving as Outgoing Chairman, mainly to advise and give continuity to the new committee and members.

Active branch involvement leads to being involved with young members, better known as Young Professionals, keeping them motivated in Engineering, providing opportunities to lead and be involved in discussions and practical examples, and assisting with problem-solving and critical thinking. One of the branch highlights is being involved in the school competitions with the Annual Water and Bridgebuilding Competitions for High School learners – the Kimberley Branch learners, on a very regular basis, end up in the country’s top 3 teams for either the Water or the Bridgebuilding competition.

Being provided the opportunity to be a manager within my organisation and being exposed to various leadership styles have made it easier to fulfil the roles in these external bodies.

This has also led to me being involved with the Governing Bodies of the Schools my kids attend, at Adamantia High School I have been a Member of the SGB for Infrastructure 2021, 2022 & 2023. At Staats Primary School I was involved with Buildings and Infrastructure in 2021, became Chairman in 2022 and 2023 and was re-elected as Chairman for the next 3-year term 2024-2026.

Exposure and experience also allowed me to actively participate in shaping and moulding the early careers of various young professionals, many of whom are today professionally registered, leaders in their fields, and some even owning their own companies.
